New Pirkle rebuild on a 668 alternator, new NOS delco regulator, New harness, rebuilt amp gage, new battery, original radio capacitors. Turn key on shows slight discharge, turn headlights shows a bigger discharge, start motor goes to 20+ charge and stays, if you rev the motor it goes up to 40+ and then pegs, back to 20 at idle.....Thoughts for possible cause?

Re: C2 - 1964 - Amp gage malfunction
Dino - besides the obvious possible situation that something is not working in the new NOS regulator, or new harness, do you have access to an inductive current meter such as a Fluke that you can verify the true current flowing through the primary wire on the altenator? This would prove or disprove the accuracy of the rebuild amp guage...and I would do this first. I find my Fluke meter invaluable for shooting this type of problem...Craig- Top

Most of the PEP Boys type auto stores will check your alternator and regulator for free. I'd take both of them in and have them checked. I'd guess voltage regulator, NOS or not. Chuck1963 Corvette Conv. 327/360 NCRS Top Flight

Before you get carried away, a whack on the voltage regulator with a woden object in a non-visual area may cure your problem.Bill Clupper #618- Top
