    Door edge finish on 68

About to get the car in the paint booth after getting the body work done and have a question on the configuration of the little "penninsula" on the top rear edge of the doors that tuck under the convertable top (or hard top).

The ones on my doors were pretty ragged, and in all the picures of have of Vettes from the C-3 era, I don't have one to reference for proper refinishing in terms of configuration.

Are these little protrusions radiused, squared, angled, or what?

Is there a trim piece that covers this?

If anyone has a picture of a correctly configured edge, I was wondering if you could email it to me at rwmnc@optonline.net

I also have a picure of it in it's rough state, in case my description is not clear.

Thanks in advance for any help......

The area that you are talking about on the outer door panel was originally just an extension of the portion of the door from which it extends. The forward corner at the point where the "peninsula" begins is, basically, square with a very slight radius. The rear surface is an extension of the angle seen in the area from which the "peninsula" extends.

This area is not otherwise tapered; the top of it is entirely in the same plane as the area of the door from which it extends.

This area of the outer door often suffers damage in service. The reason? There is only ONE reason: attempts to raise or lower the convertible top with the doors closed.

Thanks Joe, can always count on you for a good analysis of a problem.

Seems strange though, raising and lowering a top versus closing a door on a misaligned top would seem to be the bigger problem.

Found a picture though of a 68 with what seems to be a good configuration.

If anyone out there needs it, I can email it to them, FYI.
