    C2 1965 Master cylinder

Is it normal to always have the first push on the brake pedal to be softer then the second push. This is a single master cylinder standard brakes. It doesnt seem to matter how much I bleed them but the first push of the pedal is always softer then the second. Anyone else experience this?

No -- first push should be as hard a pedal as the subsequent ones. You're compressing air if the first is soft(er).

I've experienced it many times. You have AIR in the system, my friend!

I don't leak fluid but I guess I have not gotten all the air out yet so I will keep bleeding. Any other ideas or suggestions from anyone? Thank You!

          Jim:

It wasn't noted but do you have drum brakes?

If I assume you have looked at the archives on this subject of bleeding brakes, I would add that you might think about the master cylinder if it is a dual unit. A bad brake booster can sometimes give a flaky pedal feel also.

Do you have a "really loose" wheel bearing?

              Sorry, best I can do.

Try jacking up the rear of the car as high as you can- It helped me get that last bit of air out.

I have a single master cylinder and the wheel bearings seem fine.
                  Thanks for the advice Mike!

Thanks Richard, I will try that. I have the front of the car jacked up now so I will lower it and jack the back up.
