    62 FI Fuel Leak

I am gathering fuel on the intake of my 62 and it appears to be coming from a weephole on the botton of the plate where the high pressure drive comes off the distributor into the FI unit. Is there a gasket at the end of the high pressure drive cable that can go bad. It is not a streaming leak, but it is constant and has gathered a good amount of fuel over the past couple weeks. It only leaks when under pressure, or at least when running and the for a while after shut down. Any advice on how to correct gladly welcome.

    Todd.

Sorry my desriptions are so poor. Let me know if you need me to clarify.

I'd start by looking at the seal on the pump shaft. and/or replacing it if it has not been replaced recently. Generally a new pump shaft is also required as the seal generally has created a groove in the shaft before it starts leaking. Kits are available including shaft and seal to repair this.

        Bill,

Mine is "weeping" a bit. Only enough to get the gas smell but no drips yet. Is that a normal condition????

No, "Normal" is no leakage at all thru that seal. I have seen "minor" leakage go to "catastrophic" in a very short period of time, so the seal is a good item to keep fresh every few years.

Thanks for the help Bill, I will work on getting that seal, and soon!! Weird thing is that is doesnt leak much when driving, not that it makes it ok.

Clup's advice should be followed before you restart your engine. Fire and fiberglass are not a good mix.

I would not assume little or no leak when driving. Engine heat and air flow would serve to evaporate the gas rapidly so it would not accumulate. Gas vapor around a hot/running engine may not be a good combination.
