    Al Knoch soft top video

Does anyone have an Al Knoch soft top installation video that they would be willing to sell, rent, or lend to me? I'm putting a top on my 64 and need all the help I can get.

Rich, I don't have a copy of the video but, I did install one of his new soft tops on our big block '69. I just followed his step by step instructions and it turned out pretty good. This was only my second experience with DIY and new top. The trickiest part I found was the adjustment of the front to back tautness. It takes a few trial and error attempts. The photos and sequences he uses worked out just fine. I did follow his suggestions and refurbish the paint job as I progressed thru. Also, replace the tack strips with new. I did not and it was either the second or third new top and the tack strips were starting to look more like holey swiss cheese.

    Good luck,

Now that the top has been installed what maintenance are you doing to keep it looking new? I installed a new top this winter and was wondering if some type of sealer should be applied to the top vinyl or to the new window.

        Ralph,

I have found that 303 Aerospace Protectant works nicely on the top and window.

When I replaced the soft top on my '64 two years ago, I rented the video from Corvette Central. I had the tape for a month, and it is very good. The only part that was skipped (or that I mised) was the installation of the weatherstrip "caps" on the rear frame piece that touches the deck lid. They install with two machine screws and it would be much much easier to install them after t******* the weatherstripping and before installing it on the car. Otherwise, I had no problems. Took two days. A helper is handy, though.

Wayne, thanks for the info about 303 Aerospace Protectant for my convertible top. I just checked their web site. I think I might give it a try. It it carried at any stores or it is a web sale only?

              Ralph,

I purchased it at a place called Toys for Trucks. I've also heard some boat dealers carry it.
