C2: Powerglide trans matching

Just got some new info on a PG 2SPD Auto trans that I am looking to buy. I have a 63 SWC automatice that someone replaced the block and trans on. I want to restore the engine and in order to do so need a trans that will fit. Since this one is going at an unbelivable price, it is a start. Allows me to get the block sorted out until I can find the right tran.

Here's what I have:2SPD automatic Powerglide (race) with an aluminum case. Sounds like a 1967 glide w/a 1.82 ratio gear set and not a rear pump model.someone may have changed the gearset because its 36 years old though .12 and 5/8 input shaft is 1.82 planet.

Now the question: Will this tran fit at 63 327 300HP with the correct block and a 1.36:1 diff? My diff/axle are original.

Chevy made different versions of the powerglide in 1963. The Corvette powerglide was a one year only item and specific to the corvette. The tail piece is 1963 corvette only. It has bolt holes for the 63 shifter. The 300 hp version also has more clutch plates in it then the Impala trans would have. The 67 trans your looking at does not have the same tail piece. A 63 Impala SS has a similar looking trans but the tail piece is shorter. It won't fit on the corvette. If you want it to fit properly your going to have to find the correct part numbers. Of coarse you could always buy the 67 trans and try to change over the parts. I was thinking of doing that for my 63. I decided not too.

Are there adapter kits for this or would it be a custom job?

I was hoping to have this installed in some way to allow me to install the orginal numbers block. The veh is originally a powerglide and I don't want to change from that.

The powerglide will bolt up to the block, however if you have the wrong tail shaft you will not be able to mount your 63 shifter to it. Also the 63 powerglide had a coarse spline. The 67 does not. These items can be changed. I have seen tail housings on e-bay. Make sure you get the correct part numbers. Chevrolet made several tail housings with bolt holes for a shifter. The Impala SS and the Chevy II both had floor shifters as an option. Their tail housings are not correct for a Corvette. Also I believe the Impala transmission is shorter then the Corvette. the difference in the legnth is in the tail shaft. A longer tail shaft will not bolt on without internal changes to the transmission.
I don't have my part books with me so I cannot give you the part numbers for the tail shaft. However someone else might be able to provide that information.

The 63-64 Corvette Powerglide extension housing was GM PART #3793803. However, I do not know if it carried this same number as a casting number. This same extension housing was also used for 1963 Chevrolet and GMC series 10 and 20 trucks with Powerglide.

I just got an offer for a freebie 69 powerglide 2Spd auto trans from a local mechanic who is closing shop (comes with a free 63 refit kit :-) ) Is this the same deal? If I get the proper tail shaft and rear housing it could be made to fit?
