I bought a 1967 350 hp air cond. conv. that has been in storage since the 70's. On the pad the stamp for HT (350 hp) appears to be deeper than the rest. Especially the T. Does anyone remember seeing this before? I am told Mike Antonic once did an article on this but I can't find it. I'll be happy to send anyone a picture for their scrutiny.

It is very common for one side of any pad stamping to be embossed deeper than the other end. These stampings were done by HAND. In other words, the assembly line worker used a gang stamping fixture and created the impression by striking the mandrel of the fixture with a large hammer. If he struck the mandrel more towards the right side, the impressions would be deeper on the right and if he struck the mandrel more towards the left side, then the impressions would be deeper on the left. If he struck it "square-on" the impression would be even all the ways across. I expect that RARELY happened. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

I know that I have seen folks running around at Regionals taking photos of stamp pads for a library. Is that Al Grenning? If so, how about talking with him. I hear that there is an extensive photo library going. I saw the camera that was used to shoot the stamp pads. NICE!
