Mid - Year Instrument Cluster Article

I just finished a article on the removal of the Instrument cluster on Mid-years and would like to post the link.

    Hope it's helpful

Bill, Terrific article. I need to replace my headlight warning bulb. Any thoughts. I was thinking I could lower the steering column and loosen the cluster enought to get access at the top. Do you think I would need to disconnect items such as tach, speedo, and oil gauge?

Last year I replaced the bulb in my 63. I was able to do it without removal of anything. You need long arms skinny fingers and a little patience. While on your back reach around the entire dash support frame with your right arm. I was able to reach the bulb. It is easier if the seat is out of the car.

I know a guy who rents out his pet monkey for this purpose!

Bring on the Monkey. You need to be a contortionist to get at that bulb.

Ralph - Here's a good tip for working on midyear instrument panels. Take 2 threaded rods about 12" long and the same diameter and pitch as the screws holding the instrument panel in place. Remove the two screws to the right and left of top center and replace them with the threaded rods. Remove the rest of the screws and the instrument panel will be safely supported by the threaded rods. Of course you still have to remove the steering column collar and drop the steering column.

Great idea! I'll give it a try next weekend. The guy with the monkey never showed :-)
