    STRANGE Vette...?

Hi...I saw a "strange" Vette on the highway, Michigan manufactures plates with blacked out panels, black plastic on the rear end facia. Most of the C5 shape, but "dummied" up to hide the real shape. Real different wheels,(20+) on it,
super wide tires all the way around. Coming from Oshawa GM headquarters, it would be the 3rd or 4th "blacked out, phony facia" model I've seen in the last month.

      Bruce:

Could very well be one of the new Caddy's running engineering tests. The proto builds started in Bowling Green a month or two ago.

        Bruce,

Take picture the next time you see one and post them here... or sell them to one of the Corvette magazines.

          Whatever was I thinking?

I meant the proto's for the C-6. The Caddy proto's are long gone. The two C-6 cars that have been built, were built in Michigan, not Bowling Green.

I've been told the C-6 has fixed headlights, steel frame and possibly a different wheelbase than the Caddy. They recently had a C-6 on display at the Bowling Green plant.

            Re: Whatever was I thinking?

It would have been a little hard to take a picture at 70 MPH when he blows up beside me on the off ramp and I'm going straight thru. Not impossible....If I had been in MY Vette I would have jumped on his tail, but I was in my Caddy and it just doesn't hug the curves as good,,,,,,,,

              Re: Whatever was I thinking?

When living in Dearborn from 1990-1993 I saw all kinds of similarly attired vehicles from the F*rd company. It was fun to be able to see them long before the magazines printed ther spy pics.

                Re: Whatever was I thinking?

When I worked for the General I went on a Corvette test trip to the upper mid west ---if I told you the location, I would have to kill you---in January of 1996 . We were testing the 1997 Corvette.

We started out in Warren Michigan of course and drove thru Chicago and some other larger towns. We had a convoy of vehicles, a dually pulling a two place trailer for two camouflaged 1997 Corvette beta's , a Suburban, and a Cadillac. We were only allowed to drive the Corvettes on the open roads from dusk till dawn and never thru any large cities. The trip out to the testing area was not part of the actual testing, but was just intended to get us used to the vehicles. The Corvettes were white and had extensive camouflaging with all side covered. The cove areas had thin white plastic sheets taped on with white tape and there were white bras both front and rear. You would have to have been very astute to have identified them as Corvettes.
The test area was very cold-----this was a heater and AC test. How cold was it you ask?---It was so cold that you could take a glass of water and pitch it into the air and it would turn to snow instantly!! The HIGH temp for the week was -9, the LOW ( as it was most of the week) was -37---birrrrrrrrr!

                Life was good!

Would that have been the Timmins test area in northern Ontario?...."We have ways of making you talk Mr Armstrong"

I did one test trip during my GM days to the Bemidji/International Falls Cold-Test site, and another during my Chrysler days to their site at Kapuskasing, Ontario; coldest damn places on earth - injection-molded plastic (and die-cast, for that matter) handles do NOT do well at 30-40 below zero (*F)

Grand Forks, N.D. or Kapuskasing, Ont. or Kinross? In that order?
