C2 (63) Expansion tank hoses

I am ready to install the expansion tank and hoses for the first time. I want to replace the 'radiator' hose and the 'overflow' hose that go to the tank and noticed that the old hoses that were on the tank are different sizes. The 'overflow' hose was 5/16" and the 'radiator' hose was 3/8". My problem is that the two tubes on the tank for these two hoses are the same diameter. I figured that they should have been different sizes since the hoses were different sizes. Can someone tell me what size hoses goes on for each tube?

The hoses that you are referring to are completely different type hoses, although someone may have previously replaced the ones on your car with non-original types.

The hose from the external supply tank to the radiator is a 3/8" ID hose that is a thickwall type with fabric cord reinforcment (like typical radiator hoses).

The overflow hose is a special thin-wall hose which has no fabric reinforcment. It is smaller in OD than the above hose. I think that this hose is of 3/8" ID, but it may be a bit smaller. If so, with its thin wall, it will easily stretch over the nipple on the tank neck.

A little off the topic of hoses.

I have a lot of books on the '63 and midyears in general. None of these books had that type of information on the hoses. Without telling you every book and manual that I have, how did you know that information? I assume that a lot of it comes from experience but, there has got to be a manual that defines the type of hoses used. (The hoses is just an example. I mean parts in general.)
