OK, Brian Futo tells me that the schematics for the very early FI units are in Rochester Products Training Text 1220A (11-12-56) and 1238 (3-15-57). Does anyone have, or can anyone tell me where I can get copies? Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Early FI schematics revisited
One of the publications he's talking about might be the red/black 8.5x11 Chevrolet pamphlet that covers the 4360 series. It does have clear diagrams of the choke and coasting shut-off (relief valve) mechanisms for that early unit. I've seen reprints of this pamphlet for sale on eBay. Mike Hunt is offering an original print for sale in the current Driveline. I gave my original to Ken Weichman in CA years ago. This pamphlet doesn't mention the later '57 units though.
The 1960 Chassis Service Manual allegedly covers the 4800 unit choke operation, but the diagrams actually show the '58 -'61 choke orientation and single hose connection.
The "Special Release" 1957 Chevrolet Service Parts pamphlet does have good explosion views of a 4360 unit, but it doesn't contain schematics. The January, 1957, GM paper presented at the SAE annual meeting has a single diagram of a 4360 choke with a text explanation. I think the red/black phamplet mentioned above is much more detailed.- Top
