Umbrella valve seals

Need new valve seals in a 68 327. I understand that it is better to use the umbrella type. Is there a prefered brand? Do you install on both intake and exhaust valves? Are these ever used in combination with the o-ring type or just by themselves?

if your guides are not worn the umbrella type will work. do not use the "o" ring with any other type of seal. use them on both intake and exhaust. if you go for a "positive" type seal just use it on the intake and use the umbrella on the exhaust.

I thank you for your responce but I'm not sure I know what a 'positive' seal is. I don't know yet if the valve guides are worn or not. I suspect the engine has just been sitting for long periods of time but it could be a high mile motor.

positive seals are the ones that clamp tight to the valve guide after machining it to the proper size. the valve moves up and down thru them where the unbrella seals move up and down with the valve. with certain type valve springs you can not use the umbrella seal because there is not enought room for the seal to clear the inside diameter of the spring.

Thanks Clem. I bought some Felpro seals today and hope to get them on shortly.
