C-3 posi clutch packs

I need to replace the cluch pack in my '74 and was wondering if they are still available from GM. If so, does anyone know the part #. Also is there any differences in the quality of the packs offered by the aftermarket suppliers. I want to do the job once and never have to pull it apart again.

Yes, the posi plate kit is still available from GM. The current part number is GM #12524505 and it currently GM lists for $95.15. This kit includes all the parts you need, except coil springs, to rebuild any 64-79 Corvette Eaton posi unit. However, this is not the original part number. The original part number for the kit used for your 1974 was GM #483722. A lot of folks think that part was better than the replacement 12524505. I don't, though. Plus, the 483722 was discontinued in October, 1994.

I think that most of the aftermarket vendors sell the same article as the GM #12524505. It may or may not be packaged in a GM box. I think that Eaton manufactures the item for GM and sells the same piece (minus the GM markings) into the aftermarket. I'm not positive about this, though, so, personally, I use GM.
