C2-console lamp at bottom of clock support

When you remove the clock you can see that there is a lamp housing that clips to the botom of the clock support. Inside the housing, which is cylinder in shape, is a bulb that illuminates the four half moon shaped face plates located below the clock. When I removed my lamp housing (66 coupe) I discovered that there was a small green colored plastic cover on the nose of the hosuing. What doses this cover do? It appears to me that the cover will reduce the amount of illumination from the bulb? Also, can I replace the existing bulb with one that has more "candle power" so I can get better illumination?

The piece was the technology of time to give colored light. All lightbulbs were white during this period.

Are you referring to the lamp that's shaped like a miniature cigar tube? On my '65, I thought that was the ignition switch lamp, but I can't figure out how to attach it to the switch.

Jim, will the housing accept a brighter bulb for better illumination of the face plates or could this cause a problem like too much heat?

Do not know the answer to that. I would have to consult my 63-64 service manual to see what size bulb is in the clock and I am not at home. There could be a bulb that would work, but I would rather leave this recommendation with someone that has more experience in this area. I do know that the halogen bulbs for the instrument cluster in the 84-89 Corvettes should not be changed for higher output. Do not buy the halogen bulbs in blister packs at Auto Zone thinking they will suffice.
