I've been haveing trouble with the primary WCBF on my 2 4bbl 59 245hp. When I turn off the engine it leaks out of the front jet cluster into the engine. My carb rebuilder has readjusted the choke levels and has suggested a rumor that when you rebuild the fuel pump with the current rebuilding kits they are causing too much pressure on the carbs. Since I went through the pump the filter bowl remains full to the brim but checking fuel pump pressure seems to be a real pain in the rear. Does anyone have any incite on the problem? After all these years of judging I would like to enjoy driving the car but starting with a warm engine is not pleasant.

Re: Fuel pump pressure vs WCBF choke level
WCFB's do not like fuel pressure in excess of about 4.5#. I always check the pump pressure prior to installation since it's easier on the bench. Since it's already on the car the best solution may be to break the supply line at the filter inlet and find a tapered hose fitting that will seal. Since you're right there at the engine with the connection, I'd ground the coil wire to preclude any sparks and get an assistant to turn the engine over while you read the pressure. It might be a bit safer to connect a hose fitting to the pump outlet so youcan get the gauge connection away from the engine compartment. Accomplishing that is a real pain if you don't have a lift, due to the proximity of the fuel fittings to the frame.- Top

Re: Fuel pump pressure fix and carb fix C1's
I wrote many years ago on the long bolt fuel pump rebuild. If that is what you have. HOLLEY no. 12-856 is the kit you need for your AC Hi-Po pump. The springs in the kit can not be used , but the rest is O.K. The pressure is correct useing the Holley diaphragm and other parts. Then to stop your leaking, get the Borg-Warner #10039B carb kit that has a rubber needle to stop your leak and if your engine stalls on left turns the kit has a repair bushing for the vacuum passage for the choke.I thought by now every one read or new about my artical.- Top

Re: Fuel pump pressure vs WCBF choke level
Jeff,
Keep the heat away from the WCFB's, use two carb to manifold gaskets. Check that the vapor vent (little round cap on top in front) is in open positon when engine is off. Check those tiny, tiny vent holes (anti percolator passages) in the little plugs located in the main body are open. Experiment with lowering the primary and secondary floats below spec. Start with 1/16", to no more than 1/8". Since your front carb is not dribbling, I'd look first the rear at the float level. Regards- Top
