    BB Cylinder Head Date Decode

    I have a '72 LS5. The casting date on each cylinder head is "C1072". The way I read the judging guide, this decodes to March, 107, 1972. I'm guessing it's supposed to be March 10,1972.

    How is this date correctly decoded ???

    Mike -

    C = March
    10 = 10th day
    72 = 1972

    Tonawanda castings use two digits for the year ("72"); if it was a Saginaw casting made on the same day, it would show "C 10 2", as Saginaw used only one digit for the year on their castings.

      Thanks - I guess the judging guide is truely for judges who carry that kind of detail around in their head because I don't see the Tonawanda/Saginaw distinction anywhere.

      Thanks again !
