    Battery silver eye

I just started my car up after 4 months of sitting and it started up fine but i noticed the eye on the battery was silver. I have never seen a silver eye. Usually it is green on a full charge which i had a automatic charger on it for about the past 3 weeks but before that i had nothing on it. I don't know if the battery is low on acid or it froze and rethawed at some point. It has been a very cold winter here. Has anyone seen a silver eye on a battery? Thanks in advance. Eric

    Re: Battery silver eye

Eric, The 'eye' is one end of a clear plastic rod that protrudes into the battery electrolyte fluid. If it shows clear, it is not immersed and there likely isn't enough fluid in the cell. I recommend using distilled water to replenish the fluid.

Bernard, I put a load tester on it this morning and it read good. I opened up the cells and they look dried ,no fluid. I never had a battery go dry before. I think i'll try the distilled water since it is reading good on the tester. Thanks for the advice. Eric

Sounds like your charger cooked the battery. Might want to check it out before you use it again.
