I just started my car up after 4 months of sitting and it started up fine but i noticed the eye on the battery was silver. I have never seen a silver eye. Usually it is green on a full charge which i had a automatic charger on it for about the past 3 weeks but before that i had nothing on it. I don't know if the battery is low on acid or it froze and rethawed at some point. It has been a very cold winter here. Has anyone seen a silver eye on a battery? Thanks in advance. Eric

Re: Battery silver eye
Eric, The 'eye' is one end of a clear plastic rod that protrudes into the battery electrolyte fluid. If it shows clear, it is not immersed and there likely isn't enough fluid in the cell. I recommend using distilled water to replenish the fluid.- Top

Re: Battery silver eye
Bernard, I put a load tester on it this morning and it read good. I opened up the cells and they look dried ,no fluid. I never had a battery go dry before. I think i'll try the distilled water since it is reading good on the tester. Thanks for the advice. Eric- Top

Re: Battery silver eye
Sounds like your charger cooked the battery. Might want to check it out before you use it again.- Top
