Had the same problem in hot Arizona, starter gets hot and draws too much current. I had the starter rewound with more windings than stock, will now start a 400hp 331ci at 280 degrees.

Dennis,
You bet I will definetly follow up with a report. I did contact John Pirkle on possibly doing a starter rebuild. I wonder if my local shop here can do the same job with the same affect? Any ideas here professional vs. local shop?

Craig, any auto electric shop worth anything ought to be able to rewind your starter in a matter of a few hours and provide a guarantee. I think this typically costs around $75 at least in my part of the world. They will aslo be able to test your started under load, but probably won't be able to duplicate the high heat condition.

Douglas Battery on Broad St does this kind of work. They fixed my generator in just a few hours. I'm doing the final interior work on my car now. Hopefully, I'll pull up in your driveway this spring!
