Would gapping spark plugs at .030 with HEI ignition cause a "rich" condition ie: excess sooting at the tailpipe? Please explain....

i do not think so, but the black you see in the tail pipe is because there is no lead in todays gasoline which made for the gray color in tail pipes before. the HEI will develop more energy with the plugs gapped at .045 because the wider the gap the more energy it takes to jump the gap. we run hi compression/hi RPM race engines at .030 with a HEI
