    Q for L 72 experts

I went to look at a 427 to build for my chevelle. When I got there I knew right away it was an L 72 (my corvette is a 66). The cast #'s, cast date, stamp pad broach marks, Tonawanda date, and IP suffix, all correct. My question is. Why is this engine correct in every way but it has absolutely no Vin # on the pad? Was it a back door job or maybe a Yenko transplant? I did buy it. Thanks in advance.

If you bought an L72 from the Chevrolet parts department in 1966 - that is how it would have been produced. Enjoy your find.
