    C2 Blackout sequence

    I have a 65 roadster and I'm getting ready to do the blackout for the engine compartment. The question I have is about what was installed before the blackout process.Were the expansion tank support, the window washer support and the grill supports installed before blackout? Thanks for your help.

    Jerry -

    Virtually everything that was riveted to the dash and inner fenders was installed in an off-line subassembly fixture in the Body Shop (where the assemblers had easy access to both sides of the panels to buck the rivets), before those panels were assembled/bonded to the body on the main line, and those riveted items were covered by the engine compartment blackout operation near the end of the Paint Shop.

      I've heard the vents on the sides were masked during blackout by putting a cardboard shape on the inside to block off flash through the vents. Can you confirm that and do you remember how big it was and what it covered. Thanks Jerry

        I dunno - never looked that closely at that part of the operation. As variable as the blackout operation was, I doubt that anyone could fault however you choose to do it.
