Having trouble removing fan shroud from my 71. I remember reading something about it in a past post but having trouble finding it in the archives. Any help would be welcome. thanks

Two basic shrouds used in '71.... Base SB had a metal shroud that was companion to the Harrison aluminum radiator and 'optioned' SB cars + BB cars used a fiberglass shroud surrounding their brass radiators. -

I have a 71 small block. I took of the shroud several times. There is a small piece of the shroud on the bottom that you should take off, it will give you better clearance. Be sure to take off your fan. The next hitch is the fact that it is cought between the upper-a-arm mounting bolt and the fender wall. LOTS of muscle here.

Ed I have removed the shroud on my 70 350 with air several times since 1970. The way I do it is to use a floor jack under the passenger side lower control arm to support the weight of the car and enable the upper control arm to be unbolted. After removing and taping the alignment shims I pull the upper control arm into the wheelwell with the tire removed. I remove upper control arm bolts from the frame, they have serrated edges and will come out. My shroud easily comes out with the control arm out of the way. I have a 26 inch radiator which comes out pretty easy with the shroud out of the way. Nothing gets damaged this way and my original shroud still looks pretty good.Comment
