    Starter PN# 1107739

Any idea what the origianal application was for this starter? It's currently bolted on a '66 L36. Thanks in advance for the info!

    Dan------

The travels of starter motors! I can assure you that this one didn't begin its life on a 66 L-36. In fact, it didn't even begin its life on a Chevrolet. It first resided on a 1959 Buick with 401 cid engine.

Of course, keep in mind that the starter motor component that you're reading the part number off of, the frame section, might be all that remains of the original starter. The part number stamped on the frame is the part number for the starter as originally configured and assembled. Commercial rebuilders usually strip starter motor cores apart, recondition the major components, and assemble complete starters to whatever specs they need from their stocks of reconditioned components. Then, the motors get put in a box with the commercial rebuilder's part number on it. That number is usually not affixed to the starter, itself, though. So, the GM part number stamped on the frame is likely just a vestige of what the starter once was.

      A '59 Buick, eh? Ha!

Now I'm on the prowl for a Dec, Jan, or Feb. #1107365 starter...

As always, I've learned something new. Thanks, Joe.

Dan - you might want to give John Pirkle a call, he had several 7365's in the date range you are looking for last year at Carlisle. Now, if I can find a similarly date 1100696 42A alternator....I found my Feb 7365 starter on Ebay last fall....Craig
