Re: 1976 Corvette Stingray
Bruce-----
You didn't provide some information which is VERY important to properly answering your question, including whether the engine is an L-48 or L-82 and whether the transmission is a 4 speed or automatic.
However, assuming that the car is an L-48 with a 4 speed, the rear axle was most likely a 3.36:1. It could optionally have been fitted with a 3.08:1.
If the car is an L-48 with auto trans, then the ratio would have been 3.08:1.
If the car is an L-82 with 4 speed, then the rear end ratio would have been 3.55:1 and L-82 with THM-400 would have been 3.36:1.
L-82 with close ratio 4 speed could have optionally received a 3.70: rear ratio and L-82s with THM-400 could have optionally received a 3.55:1 rear ratio.
The axle code found stamped on the bottom of your differential case could provide some confirmation of what was originally installed in your car. This will be a 2 alpha-character code beginning with "A" or "L".In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
