Patent Pending R Dual Point Dist. Cap

Came across one of these. It's Delco Remy, Patent Pending R on the top. No numbers. It's a dual point cap....2 windows. What does it fit? Chuck

    Chuck,

It is a D-324 cap. It will fit 61 FI cars and most if not all 62's. Unfortunately the R is not NCRS correct for any application. Without the R it is the most difficult of all the Delco vintage caps in my opinion.

chuck; R on the dual window cap can be "lost" with dremel tool & patience.high gloss in area of lost R can be buffed to high shine with rubbing comp.

Re: Patent Pending R Dual Point Dist. Cap

Thanks for the responses, Dave and Mike. Being a dentist in my real life, I think I just might have the ability to make the "R" disappear. Why did I pick up this cap? Well, it's a dead ringer for the "correct" cap for my 69, the "single window" Patent Pending R. The problem is the dual windows. It would certainly be much tougher to eliminate one of the windows. Chuck,

I have seen attempts at removing the R and I haven't seen one that is not detectable. I had a conversation with a couple of NCRS judges in Orlando and they commented that the R removal is always detectable. I think most mechanical judges are smart to that trick. The D-324 R cap is a useable service cap to those who don't want to spend $250 or more for a non R cap. The D-308 Patent Pending R cap you need for the 69 is available and is not a kings ransom like the Non R caps.

Can anyone tell me if the real D-324 cap's have any marking on them?
I have a duel window cap on a duelpoint distributor dated 2F23,
but there are no numbers or markings on the cap at all.
            Thanks
            David

              Dave,
There were numerous aftermarket caps made for Chevrolet and GM applications and most or all would not have any external markings. Delco Remy embossed their name and other information regarding patents, R's etc. on the top for all to see. The exception to that were the earlier Delco D-305 and D-306(6 cylinder) caps which had internally adjusted points. The exterior was bare but a small Delco logo is on the inside.

                Chuck:

I believe it also fits late '50's, early '60's special high performance 348 and 409 engines with dual external adjusted points.

Chuck, I have a N.O.S. and an Original used cap for your car. I could use the Dual window cap you have for a 1962 N.O.S. Dual point Distributor I have. Bill

Re: Patent Pending R Dual Point Dist. Cap

I can lay my hands on six NOS caps and have almost a dozen nice used ones in the basement to trade for this VALUABLE rare dual point/dual window cap. BUT, this is the NCRS Technical Discussion Board and NOT a swap meet, so no matter how tempting it may be to post this kind of trade/swap/sell info in the public domain, I WILL NOT DO IT!!!!!!!!!

We have a club publication (Driveline) for this purpose. I did NOT say what I just said. PERIOD!

Jack, I by no means wanted to use this message board for a "Swap" meet. I respect your view, and apologize if I have offended anyone. I just wanted to help Chuck find a cap (Used or new). I have been a member since 1985, and appreciate the NCRS for the help it has given me along the way. Bill

Thanks for all the help. Have a good friend (who posts here ) who has a 62 340HP car. He's the only guy I know who might need a dual point cap. So...I think I'll probably give it to him, in return for future considerations Chuck
