    1969 A.I.R pump questions

does anyone here know these well?
I have a 69 427/435 and im hunting down parts
I found a pump It has casting code 7801149 correct me if I am wrong but isn't this correct for all
    350 and 427 except L-88.

I am positive it came off a 350 motor it is complete with the mount the diverter valve and the pulley But my question is can I use this pump for my 427? with the correct set up that is??

the only big discrepancy I see is the date the guy says is on the machined portion is 205331S so I think he might have typed innocently 2(3's) which is probably an 8 im waiting for another email from this guy and I also have pictures if anyone would like to see this set up..
also would I be better to just buy a set up from someone out of hemmings motor news??
what would this pump be worth??

    thanks

    Johnny,

The pump is not unique to a SB or BB setup. So as you stated given the other correct components including things like divertor valve with muffler and Manifold Trees and the all famous GM Adapter part number 3955222 (no longer available from GM) as well as mounting brackets it should work. Not knowing if you are interested in a number matching correct system or just a functioning system you may want to give a SMOG restorer like Bill Hodel a call and seek his advice. I've worked with Bill and have a high regard for his product and insight to these systems. Email me and I'll send you his contact information. I also have several electronic pictures of my correct 69 435 SMOP setup that I can provide if you like.

      Re: 1969 A.I.R pump questions

      Johnny and Dan-----

Yes, all 1969 AIR pumps were the same, except those used for L-88s. L-88's used the 68-style pump and diverter valve.

1969 AIR pumps, except L-88, have no relief valve on the pump body. That's because, for 1969, both the relief valve and diverter valve functions were incorporated into the diverter valve assembly. The L-88 pump, like all 1968 pumps, had the relief valve incorporated into the pump body. For all 1968 engines and 1969 L-88, the diverter valve assemblies incorporated no relief valve function----they were diverter valves only.

The 1969 AIR pump configuration is unique to 1969 (except L-88) through 1971 models. For 1972, the pump changed to a 19 cubic inch model. It is similar in configuration to the 69-71 pump, but it's easily detectable at a glance. It will function perfectly for 1969-71 models, though.

        Re: 1969 A.I.R pump questions

        Johnny, Joe & Dan:

For the sake of clarification, Dan stated he had a 7801149 part and this particular unit was used from 72-76. As Joe pointed out...this is the 19 inch unit. In 69, 7805650 was used, as stated, on all units but the configuration varied. The tech manual shows 781149 used in 70-72 but I'm wondering if it should read "7801149?"

          Re: 1969 A.I.R pump questions

          Tom------

The 7801149 number is the casting number of the backing plate for the pump. It was definitely used on the 69-71 pump; my original 69 pump has it. Plus, every other 69-71 pump that I've looked at uses it, too. It's possible that it was also used on the 72-78 pump. The body of that pump is somewhat different than earlier pumps and the internals are a little different, but the backing plate may very well be the same. The external physical size of the pump housing is the same between 69-71 and 72-78 pumps so the backing plate should, at least, fit on that pump housing.

            Joe:

Nice work...I believe what that suggests is that in the next edit of the NCRS 70-72 tech manual...it must be corrected. It shows 781149...a digit shy!
