c-3 auto trans date codes

I just pulled the 400 auto out of my 70.The plate on the right side has two different sets of marks.On the left side is 72-cjt[or maybe cjt 72]on the right side is 32870.In looked in my chevy by the #s book but it didnt make much sense.Any help would be appreciated in identifying this trans.My car was built in july 70.

Sorry for the delay replying. I have a research page on the '70 Registry website where I'm looking into TH400 tag details. The link is: http://corvetteforum.net/c3/1970registry/th400tag.html

I haven't seen any official decoding information. Of course with only a handful of data points one can't really draw any definitive conclusions. One guess is on the registry website.

On the other side of the tranny (driver side) you should find the VIN derivative. There are photos of both online in the '70 Registry Photographic Library / Chassis section. http://corvetteforum.net/c3/1970regi...asdetails.html The VIN derivative will be like the one on the engine stamp pad. For 1970 CTJ indicates 350/350 w/ AC. I don't have CJT listed in my reference material. Are you sure it's the original tranny?

I'm not aware of any 1974 Registries, other than the general C3 Vette Registry at www.c3vr.com I keep a list of registries on the '70 website in the links area. http://corvetteforum.net/c3/1970registry/RegList.html But to tell you the truth I haven't done a web search in about 6 months now to see if any new ones have cropped up.
