    C2 Battery Questions

When using the green knob type disconnect switch with the by-pass fuse link and spring-ring battery cables, how do you make the by-pass connections. Obliviously one end is connected at the battery terminal but where/how is the other end connected? Also, how much hypoid lubricant should be applied to the felt pad at the battery terminal post?

    Ralph -

I dunno how to measure .009 lbs. (A.I.M. quantity) - I'd just get enough on it to be oily, and not enough so it oozes out onto the battery top.

Ralph, you only need enough oil to look a little reddish. I don't know about the battery cut off. The one's I have don't have an extra connection.

Thanks. I applied "oil" to the felt area around the terminal. I assumed that would be good enough. The by-pass is still questionable.

I'm with Gene, there is no "bypass" at the battery on a C-2 electrical system as delivered. Has something been added to yours?

In fact, shutting down the clock is one of the things that we are trying to accomplish with a cutoff, as it is about the only "drain" on a C-2 battery, and if the battery runs low the clock rewind ceases to function, generally frying the coil in the clock. Another factor to recognize is that the most likely source of an electrical fire is "owner added modifications" to the wiring system, although a properly sized fusible link can prevent a conflagration, it can still allow enough current draw to seriously damage an 18ga wire such as the clock circuit, an all the adjacent wires in the harness. Most fusible links are sized to protect 14ga and larger circuits.

                Bill, Gene and John,
Found my solution to using a safety disconnect switch with spring ring connectors and a fusible link by-pass to keep the clock running. WirthCo Inc., the same company, which makes the green knob type safety switch, also makes a knife-blade switch with a by-pass link adapter connection.
