    C2 - 66 Console

I am finishing up the restoration of the interior on my 1966 Nassau Blue, Black interior coupe, and have a question regarding the black finish on the surface of the console. Is this also the same semi-gloss finish as numerous other interior parts? Also, I have some surface scratches on the metal(aluminum, stainless, pot metal, whatever) plate that surrounds the shifter opening and ashtray access door. Has anyone been successful in removing similar scratches and what technique did you use? Your help is always appreciated. Thanks.

On interior paint, check out www.AutoColorLibrary.com. You'll find exact blend codes as well as specific gloss factors defined for various interior components.

The console insert on my '65 was scratched in the same area as yours. The insert around the shifter is a very thin piece of aluminum that is glued onto the steel console. It defies all attempts at scratch removal. I replaced mine with an excellent reproduction console repair piece (includes the ashtray lid and console piece) available from most catalogs.

Carefully pry the scratched piece from the console with a thin-bladed screwdriver. You will destroy it as you remove it. Attach the new one with contact cement. What a difference a new console insert makes!

Thanks for both responses. I had a feeling the scratches could not be removed without replacement. Sounds like it is not to bad a job - so I will give it a try. Thanks again.

          Jack,
I must be missing something. How does one find the exact color codes and interior finish paint glosses using the AutoColorLibrary.com web site?

            Ralph,
I had the same question but did find out that the interior colors are listed for 1965 and earlier. After looking up the Chevrolet paint chip charts for a given year, look at the second page. I couldn't find the interior color information for 1966 and later. Maybe Jack can shed some more light.
