    radiator

Ok, whats the trick to get my radiator out of my car. I have removed the hoses, transmission lines, upper mounts with cushions, fan, foam insulation and shroud extension. Now I have the radiator (loose), and shroud (loose). I can't move the shroud back far enough to lift radiator and can't get shroud out either. My car is a very early 74'. From the bottom of the car the radiator seems to wide for the mounts by about 1/2 inch. One of the tank seams sits in the cushion correctly, but the other is to far and goes past it. The cushions on the car are on exactly 27 inch centers. All catalogs list a 27 1/2 core for a 74', could my radiator be wrong? Thanks for any help, corky.

Corky- the easiest way to remove your rad is to take the support, shroud, and radiator all at once. The support is generally held in place by three bolts on either side and two or more on the bottom. Have fun. JW

The method mentioned by J.Wright will work great, however, if your car has A/C then you might want to try a different way . A fiberglass cover is protecting A/C lines as they pass throught front firewall and this also covers the top bolt of the radiator support. If you remove the front bolts on upper A-arms sometimes this helps give shroud more room. If all else fails remove only the top two bolts on each side of rad. support and loosen all others you can move supprt foward 2 to 3 inches . CAUTION : Place a piece of cardboard between A/C condenser and the headlight actuators. There is no easy way to do this. Removing hood is a must. I would suggest someone help you because 4 hands make a big difference. Good Luck

Hello, I just removed the radiator on my '75 two weeks ago. I had the hood off for other repairs but don't think this is neccesarry. I have A/C so I didn't remove the support. I did take out the two uppermost support bots on both sides though. I needed three people total. One to hold the support foward and two to wiggle the radiator and shroud out. I had to place a strategic straight cut in the fan shrould in order to get all pieces past the upper control arm bushings and bolts. Might not want to do this if your car is NCRS. If you do this though you can fold the shroud one end over the other and it will save alot of heartache. When bolted back together and the foward fan shroud is in place it is hardly noticable. Hope this helps. Putting the hood back on the car will also take time and patience to align.

It is always a good idea to scribe the hood hinge at the hood with a pencil for easier reassembly.
