1969 HOOD PROBLEMS

HI ALL I HAVE A 69 CORVETTE THAT HAS A HOOD PROBLEM THE HINDGE ON THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT HAS BROKEN FREE THE BOLTS ARE STILL INTACT BUT THERE IS DAMAGE TO THE HOOD WHERE IT LATCHES TO THE HINDGE THERE IS A BIG HOLE CAN THIS THIS BE REPAIRED AND HOW SHOULD I GO ABOUT REPAIRING THIS.

A replacement hood may be the best way to go I would check the price of a used part.

I recently made a repair to this section of a hood... Without seeing it, I would say that it can be done provided the backing plate that the bolts thread into is in good shape. Send me an E-mail off line and I'll be happy to discuss further...

I also have had similar problems and the answer to find another hood is good , but consider the fit is not always excellent . Another fix is to splice another inner hood reinforcemnt into the existing, what i mean is you find another junk hood with a good inner frame and i would hacksaww the portion up past the prop rod and posibly right around the other side hing area up high , now with a suitable tool , such as a good 1-2" putty knife separate the surround from the old hood, you will find this quite easy and then you clean up the bonding surface of both old hood ,once the measuring and removal of a smaller piece and feather your ends and vette bond and glass the ends then lightly clamp. this works very well but you must be capable , this should not be first time stuff or you will probably mick it, hope this helps
