    Fuel Sending Unit Seal

Is there a replacement seal for the fuel sending units contact lead? The seal would be where the contact passes through the steel mounting flange. The thick fibre washer is ok, but the seal directly above it leaks. (1968-400hp). Thanks.

    Lawrence-----

No seal for the location which you describe was ever available seperately from GM. However, I believe that a seal could be easily fabricated from a piece of Buna-N or Viton sheet stock. Even neoprene would work, but I would prefer Buna-N or Viton. However, unless the seal is really deteriorated, usually just tightening the nut will solve the leak.

A word of caution: do not attempt to use silicone sealer to seal this location or any location exposed to gasoline. Conventional silicone sealer is absolutely NOT impervious and will rapidly deteriorate when exposed to gasoline. You can use a fluro-silicone RTV, but this is VERY expensive and not usually available through regular commercial channels.
