I realize that this question is about a newer Vette but I am asking for help from any member who has experienced this same problem in their Vette. The problem I am having is in the drivers seat area. While driving down the road, when coming to a stop, I feel the drivers seat move between 3/8" to 3/4". It makes me feel insecure when braking. I brought the car to the dealer, he claims that this is normal. Any help will be greatly appreciated, thanks in advanced.

Re: 1998 vette
Had the same problem with my 98. It is a common problem, but not normal. Fortunately, my car has an extended warranty, and the dealer replaced the seat track assy. This cured the problem, but it is an expensive cure if it is not a warranty situation. I believe there is a bulletin out on this issue.- Top

Re: 1998 vette
The seat rocking is a common problem with the C5. There is a fix but it has been reported that after a year it returns. The fix is new seat tracks worth about $750. It has been posted that a few owners have fixed their own by squeezing the rails tighter.- Top

Re: 1998 vette
The term for this condition is called "chucking". If there is a bulletin out on this issue, GM---actually the feds---would probably consider it a safety issue and GM should be required to fix it. Press your dealer and/or ask to talk to the Zone rep.

Reggie,
There is a service bulletin on this. You can find it in our Knowledgebase at the Corvette Action Center:

Re: 1998 vette *TL*
If this problem is a result of deterioration of the plastic seat sliders, as is common on other GM power seats, I MAY have a cure. It is only worth while if you are out of warrantee and are willing to repair the seat tracks. Email me off the board if you want more information.

Re: 1998 vette>> fix for 97 to 02 vette
I guys, I was invited by Terry to look and read this thread on the Vette Board.
This is a problem found on some of GM's products.
I am owner of an Impala SS 94 that had the same problem, IE: Seat shifting, popping noises while hard braking, cornering as well as on hard acceleration.
The same kind of TSB was released by GM and cured the problem temporarily for some people under warranty and for others at great costs !
Unfortunately GM solution as bin found to be only temporary and people soon realized that the same problem had come back some time later...
The real problem doesn't come from the whole power seat rail assy but from
the cheap nylon slider guides disintegrating over time.
GM never made these slider guides available as a stand alone part and further more decided about two years ago to discontinue the expensive replacement rails !
A friend of mine and I decided to investigate this problem at first for our own cars and decided to redesign the faulty slider guides with a better material.
We used "TIVAR 88" also referred to as "UHMW-PE Polyethylene"
The new parts were also machined for added strainght.
Knowing that we where not alone with this problem we decided to produce the new
parts and help the B-Body community to get rid of this problem once and for all.
We've been producing these parts for over 2.5 years now and sold thousands of
new sliders guides all across the USA and Canada !
I have personally fixed over one hundred seats and the new parts are still in great demand to this day. We now have some authorized distributors in Florida as well as Washington State as well as a few accredited installers in the USA.
Through time we found out that our new sliders would work on the following vehicle : 91 to 96 Caprice, 9c1, Impala SS, Road Master, Cadillac, Camaro T/A's and possibly 97 to 02 Corvette.
I do strongly believe that our new parts will also fix the Corvette seat problem and for much less costs to Corvette owner than even getting replacement rails under warranty !
The regular price for our new improved power seat slider guides kit is $45.ooUsd
and this price includes worldwide shipping. We also made available a full step-by-step online install guide with pictures. 30 to 45 minutes is all it should take for anyone who know how to read and follow simple steps to permanently fix the problem with No special tools requirement.
You can visit us at waveruner.com and follow the link to the install guide or fill our online pre-order form to order new replacement slider guides.
Although I am confident our sliders will work on Corvettes I will offer a full refund of the purchase price to all until I get an official confirmation from one of our customers that this product is working.
Very best regards to all.

Re: 1998 vette>> fix for 97 to 02 vette
Norm. Have you seen these work on a C5 seat. From a friend:- "I understand they do not use the same set up. The C5 track has two opposing U shaped tracks that the plastic balls fit into. Plus the C5 has the metal piece that rides back and forth on the worm screw. This is the piece that causes the rock as I understand it from some people. It may be a case of both areas causing the rock."- Top

Re: 1998 vette>> fix for 97 to 02 vette
Hi Gary, from your explanations of the C5 power seat rail assy the parts
I currently have available wouldn't be of any use since we're talking about
a totally different design however, I would be willing to investigate further
about the C5 seat rail problems if there is enough interest.
I understand that replacing the whole rail assy is not cheap and I could
possibly provide replacement parts at a much cheaper cost to the C5 Crowd.
Is there a good source on the Internet to find out more about these seat rails?
I would love to see some pictures of these seat rail assy !
If anyone has pictures of C5 or other Corvette models and years seat rail assy
and could send them to me via email it would make it easier to help everyone.
Better yet, anyone living close from Kingston Ontario Canada who would let me
have a look at their C5 seats or other Corvette seats? I would be willing to
drive over and inspect your defective rails. I think I know someone locally with
a C4 but not sure...
One thing though is that I am positive I can save people some good $ in the process and expand ESDS product line and market to include the legendary Corvette !
Pictures can be forwarder to waveruner@attcanada.net
Current available parts and install guide for seat slider guides
can be found at waveruner.com
Thank you Gary for bringing these new information about the Corvette C5
seat rail assy ! This will help me better help you in a quest to offer the
best solutions for custom replacement parts.
Regards
