58 Door release mechanism

I believe the shaft of the door release mechanism to which the knob is attached is longer than the shaft for the 59/60. Has anyone been able to utilize the 59/60 mechanism in a 58 door? If not, does the whole 59/60 mechanism need to be replaced and any recommended resources for the relevant part? Thanks.

The door latch mechanism on a 58 is located above, and I believe a bit aft of the 59-62 location. I don't believe the parts could be used without modification, and it would not be feasible to relocate the mechanism for a variety of reasons.
