Re: C2 Headlight Motors - missing parts
The problem is that the bearing retainer was spot welded into the end plate of the motor before the end plate was welded onto the housing. I've read articles on ways to jury rig this and fix it at home, but I elected to let a pro do it. I sent mine out to Corvette Specialites in MD and they fix it the correct way.Steve Gansky

Re: C2 Headlight Motors - missing parts
Steve,
What you seem to be telling me is that the bearing retainer and retainer spring are attached to the motor housing and that there are no loose washers or spacers on the motor shaft between the shaft and the bearing. I misread the LIC catalog drawing to mean that the retainer spring and retainer are to go over the shaft, when in fact, the shaft slides over them.

Re: C2 Headlight Motors - missing parts
Dave;
It's been a while since I had one apart. That bronze bearing (LIC 56 A) is captured in the end housing of the motor with the reatiner which I can only assume from the drawing is 56B. The retainer is a cage that is spot welded to the end plate and captures the bearing. I'm not sure, but assume that there is a washer 56C that would ride on the shaft of the motor as it slides into the bearing.
Steve
PS - Send it out and you will be happy with the results. It cost me $ 125 and the motor never worked (or looked) so well. I could never get a constant RPM in both directions. The speed was also posistion sensitive. I played and played and played. It came back perfect. I don't want to sound like an agent for CS of MD, but they did a great job for me.Steve Gansky

Re: C2 Headlight Motors - missing parts
Dave,
The best person to do this is:
Restoration Sevice
Steve Hackel
15000 S Knox Ave.
Midlothian, IL 60445
708-687-4183
He did the motors on my 67 and the had the speeds matched and look like brand new 67 motors. He lives not too far from me and after I dropped them off, he allowed to watch him work on them, as questions and BS with him. I was going to have just do the "slow" motor, but in talking to him he jokingly demanded to do the other to match the speeds. Of course I relented, and I'm darn glad I did. Couldn't be happier with the results
Great person who actually does the work for a majority of the parts & resto shops. He does all types of motors, PW, Wiper, PS, and he restores stainlees steel moldings.
Okay, enough of an ad for my $.02
