    68 327 Flywheel

    Hi:

Does anyone know the correct GM part # for a 327, 350 Horsepower flywheel. The engine has a September 29,1967 build date. Is a flywheel date coded?

    Thanks in advance, John

    John-----

The original flywheel was GM PART #3791022 which may have carried the CASTING #3791021. The current replacement flywheel is GM #366860 which also may carry the original casting number. The latter flywheel is still available from GM for a current list price of $287.90.

Another flywheel that can be used is the GM #14085720. This is a lighter weight, nodular iron flywheel applicable to 65 L-78, 67-69 L-88, and 70-72 ZR-1. Its lighter weight will cause the engine to rev faster, but will also cause reduced "get-up-and-go" from a stop. This flywheel carries a current list price of $206.91.

Usually, flywheels are dated on the reverse side. However, it cannot be seen when installed in the car. I'd MUCH rather use a NEW, incorrectly dated flywheel than a USED, correctly dated one. Absolutely. Positively.
