I'm still having fun finishing up the heater core replacement job on my '67 coupe...while I was at it, I figured that I should replace the rather ratty looking sound deadener pads that glue to the inside of the firewall....low and behold CC sends me a couple of sound deadeners that don't look like they're even close to what was there, even though the packaging was correctly labeled...they aren't even close to the picture of the installation in the AIM...now I'm baffled..what are these things I've received ? Something for a '53-'62 or '68-'82 ? ..oh yes, any suggestions as to what type of glue to use ? Contact cement ought to work, if the fumes don't get to me first...I think that aerosol 3M stuff is out of the question due to lack of "working space"...LOLOL
The other item worth mentioning is that when you order a heater gasket set, you receive a real jumbo of oddball rubber gaskets..18 for the A/C set..I have figured out where a few of them go based on the old ones I took out plus the ones used for the A/C evaporator...but as for the rest, there is no way that they would all end up inside the heater box...a couple did though..they are self adhesive and get stuck to the temperature blender door on both sides...I then glued another to the backside (on the A/C side)of the metal box that encloses the heater core, presumably to stop condensation....meanwhile the one you need for the defroster door isn't in the set !...I guess the rest will end up in the junk box..oh yeah, included in the set was a square foam rubber gasket that according to the AIM, it was used to seal the fuse panel opening...go figure ! ..I asked the folks at ZIP (they make 'em for CC too) if they had some kind of a tech sheet that described each of the foam rubber gaskets and where they went...well no such luck..I got the impression they thought I was somewhat nuts to make such a request..they did however FAX me some sheets out of the same AIM I have, but of course the AIM does not show the inside of the heater box anyway. It's no wonder that some of these jobs on the cars we love so dearly often take so long to complete. Has anyone else out there been baffled this phenomenon ? ...If so, how did you figure out what went where ?
Thanks in advance...
