C2 Deck Lid Springs

I need to add some tension to my deck lid springs. What is the best way? Should I remove the assembly and replace the springs ($8 apiece) or should I try to move the spring up the "ladder" one step? Both alternatives appear to be very challenging. Any hints from someone that has done this before?

Barry, I had to do this on my car a number of years ago. Unfortunately, the GM Chassis Service Manual shows a very special tool to expand the spring so that you can tie it in at both ends. I wound up unbolting the connection down in the "well", attaching the spring to it, and then using my buddies extra set of hands, we persuaded the spring to expand while we bolted in the spring retainer. Not sophisticated, just plain grunt work.
