Re: Sure Dr. Repro is a little weird but...

    Gary,

I don't disagree with anything you've said but your initial post did give rise to others tee-ing off on Dr. Repro. My point is that he is what he is and having a referendum on him on this list isn't going to help anyone.

I feel vendors and their practices are a legitimate board topic *only* to the extent that it pertains to the quality and authenticity of their products or their ethics, both of which are important information, not whether or not folks have had have a personality clash with a certain individual.

The only reason I slotted my reply in direct response to your post was that there is no general way to reply to the collective responses. I suppose I could have just started a new thread but it would have appeared in a remote location and been somewhat out of context to anyone who may not have read your thread.

        Apologies - boys and girls!

I received an E-mail from Vinnie Peters, VP of the NCRS, suggesting that, to avoid any legal fall out from postings that slam an invidual vendor, it would be best if I refrain from any posting here talking about any one vendor in particular. I hope that all of you out there in the ether will accept my apology if you found my comments about the before mentioned vendor offensive or inappropriate. I think that all of you know that I support this forum and encourage its active use. In the future, if I have a gripe about a vendor, I will use the power of selection and the dollar. There are certainly lots of vendors out there who I will use. Gary

I , for one do not feel any apology is necessary, in fact I feel the posting of vendor warnings are approiate, if not here where ? Need we all find out through a bad experience. I am not a lawyer and am not well versed on the liability question posted here however a simple disclaimer should take care of that, i.e. this is my opinion based on my experience only and does not reflect on the opinion of the board or it's membership, overly slimplistic, probably, but I have taken heed of other postings about different vendore here and was glad I did. This is only my opinion and doesn't reflect yadda, yadda. Jerry

                Re: Dr. Rebuild update

Expressing your views on the NCRS Discussion Board is fine, but when we get talking about a vendor, you have to be real careful. We are currently having the NCRS counsel look at all the legal ramifications to the organization and individual members for posting messages about vendors. We don't want anyone getting sued or served with cease and desist orders, as has happened on other lists.

The list is run by the NCRS and that makes the NCRS liable for the posts. You also have to remember that a good number of the vendors are also supporters of the NCRS by way of advertising in our publication. If a warning is appropriate, so be it, but to continue the thread would be better left alone.

                    Re: Some vendors are thick-headed

Some vendors really can get to you. I had an experience recently with a vendor who repaired a (non-Vette) wiper motor for me. I did not want to chance damaging the unit by getting water or other solvents in the motor, so I left it alone when I sent it to the vendor.

It came back far dirtier and greasier than it was when it left. I sent the guy an e-mail telling him I was disappointed and that it would greatly help customer relations if he cleaned the motors while he had them apart, even to the extent of bead blasting the casing, and even if it involved an extra charge. I told him I was reluctant to thoroughly clean it when I got it back, for the reasons above, and because cleaning would obliterate markings he'd put on it for return (warranty) recognition purposes.

He sent me a scalding reply, in effect telling me nobody was going to tell HIM how to run HIS business, that he was known in the business for his quality work and not for his cleaning expertise. Needless to say I am unlikely to use him in the future.
