    '70 Front end rebuild story.

Hello again,You know,I have to admit, when I first started working on this car,a factory resto.was not my intention. After I drove it for a while, and winter started setting in,I began work on the front end.Complete with spacers in the original springs, mismatched shocks, crooked brake shoes, and a bad control arm bushing,it pulled pretty bad to the right when braking, and was definitly in need of attention. So,I proceded to tear the front end apart. As I got to the steering knuckles I noticed traces of orange paint around the hole where the ball joint stud goes through.I can remember thinking, now how the heck did engine paint get all the way down here, and proceeded to cleaning with a wire wheel. This is before I was hip to the inspection marks, mind you.As I got to the driver side I noticed an orange dawb of paint, and what appears to be a drip from a loaded brush in the crevase on top of where the caliper support bolts. This is when I said hmmm..,and a different coarse of action started to take place. Now I,m in kind of a dilema,as I would like to copy these marks, and doing so would be hard with the car back together. If they were dipped as I read in the archives. It has come to my attention that there is someone that has an origanal '70 with a late build date as mine is(#16610)that might be able to help me with two remaining questions I will have to ask on another post,as I'm running out of space.Sorry for the long story, but it was one I wanted to tell. Thanks for your help and patience so far, Barney Joe Flick

Not having dug into the front suspension on my early '70 yet I can't answer your questions. You can possibly get in touch with some fellow late'70 owners via the '70 Registry website. I have links to owners names and e-mail addresses for those who request it.

I bought my '70 with the intention of it replacing my Mustang as a daily driver. I got a low mileage one thinking I'd get a few years before I had to do an engine rebuild. After living with the car and my NCRS manuals for a few months I realized how original it was, and I couldn't bring myself to sell the Rustang and make the vette my everyday car. So I got an '87 vette instead. Good luck with the restoration. The NCRS bug sort of creeps up on you and bites you when you least expect it. ~Juliet
