Re: ? on astro vents in rear deck.
Yes AstroVent Shark cars equipped with A/C option had the rear vents plugged. A non-movable rear vent door was permanently affixed and the vac line that controlled the door's actuator (from center console control panel along trans tunnel back to the vent door was deleted during factory build of the body. You'll see the difference(s) in the rear vent door by looking in your AIM (Assembly Instruction Manual) in the C60, A/C, section of options at the rear of the book.- Top

Re: ? on astro vents in rear deck.
I have a original owner 70 with air. The plates that block off the rear vents are removable on my 70. Took them off once just to see what it would feel like with the the vents open. Water will leak into your car with the plates off.- Top

Re: ? on astro vents in rear deck.
I have a 69 coupe with A/C and the rear deck vents are closed off from the factory. The car has been flight judged and I asked if this was correct and was told it is. I have also seen a C3 convertible (I don't recall the exact year) that had the vents sealed.- Top

Re: ? on astro vents in rear deck.
Vac is supplied/controlled by the center console heater control. The Astrovent door, if memory serves, is normally open and pulled shut with the application of vacuum. There should be a vacuum truth table in your copy of the '72 Chassis Service Manual (I know there's a separate one in the A/C option section) describing each control setting (Heater, Defrost, Bi-Level, Etc.) and the relationship to various vacuum control lines.- Top
