    C2 Headlamp Bucket Removal

    Hi,
I'm in the process of repainting my 67. I would like to remove the buckets so I can paint inside the cutouts. I've removed the motors but don't know the procedure to remove the buckets. Does anyone know of an easy way to remove them?
    Thanks,
    Brian

The service manual does a fairly good job of explaining the procedure and there are several good articles on the NCRS CD ROM disk. There are three bolts on each side of the bucket that are accessed by removing the bezel. As I recall, the outboard front bolt is the most difficult to get access to. I had so much trouble with that bolt I actually notched the bucket so I could get a socket wrench on it the next time!!! also, make sure you protect the bucket by padding the bumper - it's easy to knick the bucket while jostling it out of the nose section.

It will be interesting to watch you try to get them back in and fitted again, but if you are intent on removing them start by removing the Y stop and the adjustment collar. That allows you to turn the bucket all the way around to access the bolts in the pivot housings. They were painted on the car you know?

Thanks Mike & Wayne. I'm getting the feeling removing them may cause more problems then it's worth. Looks like if I remove the stop arms I can rotate the bucket to access the three troublesome screws. But Wayne I think you're saying this is the easy part, getting the buckets back in and lined-up is a big headache. Correct?

I was just having a little fun with you because it is obvious that you have never done this before. Its not all that hard, especially if you have some experience, but be prepaired for some aggravation. There are two things that would make the decision. If the buckets will not turn easily, and if there was just too much crud down there that you cant clean it up sufficiently.
