correct dates on plug wires/soaking gaskets

Before I go ahead and install the new plug wires I got, I just want to verify if I got the right ones. My '72 LT-1 vin ends in 525xxx, the wires I got are dated 1-Q-72. Am I all set?
Also, I just got new valve cover gaskets (cork) from Doc Rebuild. I heard its wise to soak them before you install them...soak them in what?

    Re: correct date

Your car is a LATE build, 24,000 out of 27,000 total, so the engine assembly would probably be in the March-April time period so your wires could be dated 1st quarter/72.

if they were pure cork not corkpreen i soaked them in hot water to soften them up. this also works with paper gaskets for carbs and such that have hardened and shrunk.
