    Barrett-Jackson Auction

If you can get the Speed Channel the Barrett-Jackson classic car auction is on tonight for five hours and again on Saturday for another four or five hours. A lot of Corvettes are in the auction listing.

Just saw a 1963 Coupe 90k mile car, auctioned off $51,000.00 said to be a Z06 BUT NO power brakes? NO duel master cylinder? What gives? This was NO Z06 like I ever saw.

Well, if you pay attention to the two village idiots broadcasting they are going to be absolutely no help. What you are watching is a bunch of rich folks with more bucks than car sense being loaded with booze and personal attention then being asked to spend a few pennies on a pretty face. The very narrow selling range of these vehicles is the proof. $40 - $60 k. For such a wide variety of cars this is not reflective of the true collector car market. These guys came with the idea that they would spend $50 K +/- for the evening, get some attention, get their face on TV, have a few laughs and take a nice toy home !
As you noted the ZO6 was most likely bogus but was offered by some past racing guy so the buyer can go home and fling an old racing name around as the previous owner of his new toy. Most of us on this board would have been on that sucker like a bear on honey. Underneath, flash light in one hand and documenting books in the other with help from three knowledgeable friends who were as crazy as we were about Corvettes. What you are watching is hype and entertainment. We poor working guys do enjoy watching the truly wealthy spend their money. It fullfills our fantasy in the cold dead of winter. That's why the show is on in Jan. It's 20 degrees outside, snowy and frozen. The Vet is sleeping nicely in the corner of the garage at 9 pm. In an hour I'm going to bed and dream about those lucky rich guys in the warm south west wearing shorts, drinking booze and spending money like there is no tomorrow!

I have sold two Corvettes a 54 and 57 at auction and what I have seen is this, and this is the reason I dont try and sell a Corvette to a Corvette person any more.
        1. I can get a higher price %25 and up on any Corvette
        2. I don't have to deal with some one that really knows or thinks they know what is right or wrong.
        3. I don't have to play games over money because one bolt has has the wrong marking.
Now I'm not putting down any Corvette person that reads this, tho I do expect people to dump on me with this posting.

I was at the auction this afternoon and believe I looked at the car in question. There were a number of things that appeared suspicious. There are some really nice C1 and C2's that I examined which will cross the block tomorrow. The prices today were very high. I think the lowest price C2 was 41,000.00.

How about the restored 54 that was the "high seller" yesterday at 80K? It wasn't shown going across the block. After they came back from a commercial break, it was being driven off. 80K is a TON of money for a 54. I saw the 63 Z06 too, supposedly owned by Bob Bondurant, the ex-Corvette racer from the 60's. Did you note that the "experts" doing the tv commentary said it was "highly unlikely that a bogus car would get through the auction"?

Yeah - Right ! and what about the "hemi Cuda that had a 440 instead of a Hemi when they opened the hood ? The black '55 had the wrong air cleaner and was supposedly "stored" since 1957.
