    C2 Powerglide Low Band Adjustment

I have a harsh downshift in the powerglide in my 65 Coupe. I have replaced the vacuum modulator with no change. It was suggested here on the forum that the low band should be adjusted by turning the adjusting screw tight and then releasing 1-1/2 turns. The Corvette shop manual indcates tightening to 40 inch-lbs and backing off 4 complete turns and the Chilton Corvette 1963-1982 Repair Manual indicates tightening to 70 inch-lbs and backing off 4 turns. Any recommendations or explanation for the different recommendations.

First check that the vacuum to the modulor is OK, tightening hand tight is OK and backing off 11/2 or two turns is OK. That is how I'v done it for years rebuilding PG. That reduces the distance the band must travel to close, giving a better softer down shift. Like many things in the real world, the book way is not always the right way.
