    66 seat rails

    Craig,

I can check on my car tonight. Exactly what part should I look at? The side rails on the seat underside that get bolted to the floor pan?

      Re: Black vs. gray phosphate

      Gary,

Craig is correct. My parts have been to Steve and back.

I even sent him the information on making black phosphate out of gray phosphate, but he insisted his plater would not do this.

BTW, he actually send them out to a plater to get them done. He does NOT own a plating shop himself. He makes some of his $ in assisting in preparing your parts.

          Re: 66 seat rails

Gary - yes, Jack Humphrey informed me the seat mount brackets that bolt to the floor are phospate coated (I beleve he said black, but it sounds like there is a lot of discussion here on charcoal vs black). The frames above are painted gloss black. All of my parts are bead blasted now, and it appeared my bracket were black semi gloss paint from someone before, so I am trying to do the right thing when rebuild the seats. Thx!....Craig

Patrick - have you tried to work with these companies you reference in your link? What did you run into? Thx, Craig

              Patrick -

Those responses square precisely with the finish spec on almost all GM fastener drawings of the era - "Phosphate and Oil", and I can verify that they were indeed "oiled" after phosphating; by the second hour of the shift, your hands were black and oily

                Craig,

That's my next step once the bolts are returned (any day now).

I'm just surprised that no one here seems to have parts replated. Does eveyone buy a whole new car worth of bolts out of the Paragon catalog? I'm surprised that it seems like there is a dearth of responses to this one.

I'll keep looking and let you know.

                  The Parts Probably WERE

clean and ready but doubtfully are by now. Regardless of how they were packed oxidation has occured in the meantime. I send parts to St. Louis for Cad and Zinc but by the time they arrive at the destination further surface work is inevitable

                    Jer,

Actually, many of them sat in my garage a couple of months post-ceaning and unsealed from the atmosphere, and they still looked great when I sent them.

                    Who knows, though, now...

                      Craig,

I believe that those are gray (not black) based on the originals I have.
