Coil ID "187" on a 1969 427/400

Need help determining if this coil will function properly on my 1969 427/400 (standard stock point distributor). I know it should be a "287" coil but this is what is currently on the car and I would like to use it until I can find a "287" coil. Does anyone know if the "287" coil is still available or where I might find one.

I don't know what the "187" coil was originally used for, but it had no Corvette application that I'm aware of. However, the GM #1115287 coil was NEVER a SERVICE part number; it was PRODUCTION only. Therefore, this part was never available in SERVICE.

I have a 69 427/400 too. It's supposed to have the 287 coil, but I'll throw another "monkey wrench" into your quest. The NCRS JG says that "original" 287 coils did NOT have the "BR" stamped beneath the 287. The "BR" stands for ballast resistor. I've looked at original cars, and picked up a pile of coils, and have never seen a 287 coil without the BR as the JG calls for. I've asked this question before, and never gotten an answer. I have a 287 with the BR on my car BTW. Chuck

Mine has a "287" with a B-R beneath.. 69 427/390 Oct. 69 build.
