I may be purchasing a '71 within the next couple of days (350/270 auto) and the car has a hetaer core leak. The car was frame off restored aprrox. 5yrs ago body, wiring, drivetrain, suspension and was told that the heater core leak and the clock not working are the only known problems. So the question is what is involved with the heater core R&R. I am also curious as to what the ballpark value of the car is in it's present shape considering the car is green (not sure which color green) with a leather saddle interior(origonally green vinyl) and a 350/270 auto. Thanks,Jeff.

Re: Buying a'71 with a leaking heater core.
Jeff, Heater core, drivers side foot area, is not all that tough. It's nothing but a small radiator. Take the heater ducks out and remove the hoses and it comes right out. Put the new one back in, replace the duck work and hoses. That's it.See it in the 71 assembly manual.
71 is a good year. I can't give you a price but if it's a base automatic coupe it's probably $10K to $13K range.- Top

Re: Buying a'71 with a leaking heater core.
Jeff,
As Bob mentions, replacing a heater core is no great drama provided you can do it yourself of have a competent assistant or mechanic available.
I suggest that you peruse the E-bay Corvette site and check out the 71's.
If they have bids on them than that's probably an indication of minimum values, watch the auctions and if they meet the reserves then that will tell you what they are selling for.
Good Luck. Mark.
