Driving Points

What is the formula used to calculate driving points for flight judging at an NCRS meet? I will be driving to the Pittsburgh meet in a few weeks and will be traveling 245 miles one-way for that trip. How many points will I get? (or how many deductions can I afford and still make top flight with my 70?)

Tony,

You get .1 of a point for every 10 miles driven, up to 10% of your net score. If you're driving 245 miles to the meet you would get 2.4 points added to your net score. Thus if your net score was 92% you would end up with 94.4%, thus giving you a top flight.

In response to Gary Bishop, the crow fly theroy went away several years ago. The latest NCRS Judging Reference relects all of the latest changes. Vinnie was absolutly correct in his example.

Both Vinnie and Chuck are absolutely correct. This shows that how much I try to keep up with the updates, I will miss some. This Board proves its worth once again. See all in Bowling Green.

There are a few caveats to milage drive credits, as I've learned in my work as an NCRS tabulator. First, what all below say is true -- it's not as the crow flys, it's actual milage the owner declares for his trip in because that's the real McCoy wear/tear exposure factor.

Next, milage driven credits do NOT apply unless the car gains a Third Flight or better on its raw score. You can't make a 'basket case' Corvette get Flight status by driving to Tierra Del Fuego and back on your way to the meet (humor here).

When calculating, you concantenate instead of round. Take the miles driven, divide by 100 and concantenate at the second decimal. Example 259 miles becomes and adder of 2.59 or 2.5 (not 2.6) percent to the car's raw Flight score.

More interesting things are mentioned in the NCRS Judging Reference Manual (a 'must have' item to compliment your Judging Guide, Ops/PV Manual and Score Sheet library if you're going to campaign/Flight your Corvette). Have fun, good luck, enjoy your club!
