    C3 1968 Quadrajet question

I am an original owner of a '68 convert 327 350hp HT block engine.

Over the years I have tried to buy a backup carburetor, for use when I rebuilt the original. When I went to the dealer with the carb number , 7029224 code OB I was told that there was a mistake and that that carb did not exist. I checked with NCRS and the tech book says I should have a 7028219 code DG quadrajet. That was confirmed by the dealer so I bought one. The performance of my car went down significantly so I rebuilt and used the original carb. The '68 I have runs very strong and has 2 1/2 inch exhansts. I am now trying to restore it and would like any info on this quadrajet carb that I still have.

Does anyone have any info on this situation?

    Thanks for any help.

    Re: C3 1968 Quadrajet question

7029224 shows as a truck application Quadrajet in the 44th edition Hollanders. That would cause it to carry richer jetting than the pass car variant. Generally, a Rochester carb that ends in an even number is for an auto trans setup.

      Re: C3 1968 Quadrajet question

7029224 is a 1969 350 truck carb with 67 jets and 38 rods and with 7034320(AN) .070 dia tip secondary rods. 7028219 1968 corvette HP M/T with 66 jets and 36 rods and with 7034822(BG).040 dia tips secondary rods. at WOT the 7028219 is richer because of the .040 diameter VS the .070 diameter secondary rods.

        Re: C3 1968 Quadrajet question

Thanks for the response but I am still confused. There is no doubt that my Car was delivered with this carburetor in 1968 as I took it then. It hardly seems likely that a later carburetor could have been installed before delivery, so I will go back and recheck the numbers. I will post the results.

        Thanks again
